University of NSW – Roundhouse

University of NSW - Roundhouse

University of NSW - Roundhouse project

The Roundhouse at UNSW has for many, many years been an iconic location at the heart of the university campus.  Back in 2016 the building needed an extensive renovation and refurbishment. Whilst the character and uniqueness of the space was to be retained a significant upgraded was needed both internally and externally.

MGP worked on the hydraulic workshop drawings and trade waste design for the newly renovated UNSW Roundhouse. The upgrade in facilities included student lounges, main event space, bar, bistro, function rooms and meeting spaces.

Important to the project was maintaining the integrity of the building whilst modernising the outdated facilities. MGP were briefed, and successfully delivered, a significant increase in the capacity of the kitchen, enabling this facility to cater for large scale events into the future.

Project completed in mid 2017.

University of NSW - Material Science & Engineering Building (MSEB)

This award winning project led to our successful involvement on the new Science and Engineering Building (SEB) to the west of the MSEB.

As part of a team of designers and builders for the Materials Science and Engineering Building (MSEB) at the University of NSW. This project won the Master Builders Australia (MBA) National Awards for Excellence in Construction – Best Tertiary Building $50,000,000 and over.

The University of NSW undertook a major project to provide new infrastructure to their Physical Sciences precinct. This impressive nine-storey building now provides facilities of laboratory spaces, teaching and learning areas as well as workshop and research spaces.

MGP provided the design and coordination of hydraulic services using Revit 3D modelling. Services include drinking, non-drinking and laboratory water supply, sanitary, trade waste and laboratory drainage.

University of Sydney – Life, Earth and Environmental Sciences Facility

University of Sydney - Life, Earth & Environmental Sciences Facility

MGP were excited to be part of the team that worked on the construction of the new Life, Earth and Environmental Sciences facility at the University of Sydney. The nature of the building and the Science facility provides an opportunity for the construction team to use materials and systems that are sustainable and have a minimal impact on the environment.

From a hydraulic perspective not only will materials be carefully selected but the multiple water systems involved; supplying drinking water, non drinking water, will also include reverse and flow osmosis technology for pure water for the research laboratories. Lab waste will require a specialised drainage system involving pre-treatment before entering the main Sydney Water system.  MGP also proposed symphonic drainage as this system provides flexibility as it doesn’t have the constraints associated with a proprietary system and its associated costs.

MGP designed the fire hydrant, hose reel and storage, ensuring they comply with the National Construction Code of Australia (NCC).

UTS – Broadway Building

The Facility of Engineering and Information Technology is an innovative 14-storey structure, which accommodates 4,300 students and 500 staff.

With 23,500sqm of usable floor space, it provides students and academics with interactive breakout spaces. A wide podium on levels 3-7 overlooks Broadway and Alumni Green, houses the bulk of the social student focused areas including UTS Library, scholarly reading rooms, learning commons, collaborative classrooms, theatres and Student Services Hub. Level 9 above the podium accommodates additional research spaces, presenting as a twisting rotating external form reaching upwards.

MGP’s role in this development was to design and provide hydraulic services with special requirements including rainwater re-use and urinal waste storage to extract phosphate for agriculture/fertiliser research.
